The “Recycled City” was a month-long project that the 3’s, 4’s and pre-K students created. Because of parents’ generous donations of recyclable items, the children were able to come together and build an entire town out of repurposed materials. The collaborative process enables young children feel creative, broaden their imagination, and be successful in many areas. It also teaches children to respect others work and to take responsibility for their own work. Once we had finished constructing the city we used it as a still life and drew what we had created together. We discussed possible names for the urban environment, and had a wonderful time from beginning to end!
This is delightful and whimsical! I love the idea of creating something 3D then making it 2D by drawing it. The collaborative aspect is really neat, too. :)
